Abdul Alim Siddiqui aka Alim Siddiqui grew up in Delhi, India, in a large family with six brothers and sisters. For the past 40 years his parents have been in the business of moulding glass used in sunglasses utilizing the moulding glass technique. Being the eldest child in his family Alim started working in his family business alongside his father and mother at the tender age of 9 years. After school, before playing cricket with his friends, Alim would go his parent’s factory where his job was to cut the glass molded by his mother in the furnace and make sure the cut glass pieces are delivered to the buyer on time.

After graduating from High School Alim earned a Bachelors in Commerce and Masters degree in Commerce (Business) as well as Certificate in Chartered Accounting from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. In 1993 he started working as a junior Accountant with a reputed Chartered Accountant firm in New Delhi. All this time Alim continued to help his parents cutting and molding glass in the evenings and weekend.

However, one day, in February 2000, Alim went to an Art Expo in Greater Noida and saw a vendor displaying Venetian style mirrors. Inspired by the beauty of the Venetian mirrors he made a career altering decision to learn the art of Venetian techniques including etching, mirror manufacturing and construction. While still working with the Chartered Accountant firm, Alim would read various books highlighting the numerous styles and types of mirrors and glass to perfect his techniques. In July 2001, using his knowledge and experience in optical glass moulding and manufacturing, and his commerce/business education and background, Alim Siddiqui proudly established his company A B GLASS to bring his style of Venetian designs to the Indian market with only 1 workshop and 2 employees. Over the years Alim has expanded to the following design concepts:

  • Modern/contemporary style
  • Indian ethnic /Rustic wooden furniture
  • Nordic style showcasing simplicity
  • Home Decor and Accessories such as photo frames, trays, coasters, ashtrays, table lamps, wall clocks, console tables etc.
